If you ask google for something like used hard drive quantum viking scsi you'll find some places such as 9to5computer.com harddrivesforless.com harddrives.yourbeststores.com lowendmac.com megamacs.com partscloset.com that sell used items. Yes, it's possible to swap the electronics and keep the platters; I did that on a Quantum IDE for a customer a while ago. The trick was finding the matching drive :-) In my case, it didn't even have to be a perfect match; close enough was good enough.
