For those using GNOME, there is the gnome-system-tools package, which is proposed for inclusion in the gnome-2.8 release (previously available as a separate install). I haven't tried it, so don't know if it suffers from the same problems as YAST when editing config files. I don't believe it addresses hardware discovery.
