In contrast, on the Spanish keyboard, backslash is AltGr º Scaled onto a US 104-key keyboard, that's the same physical keys as right-alt ` The pipe, OTOH is AltGr 1 (right-alt 1) So the original person who pointed out how much the layout matters had a very valid point.
