If he wants you to use Visual C++, it's not likely that you're going to
find an equivalent Linux solution.  It's not just the IDE, it's also the
Win32 libraries.  I don't know if VC++ will run under wine, but even if
it does (unlikely), your hardware isn't going to be too great for such a
task.

Of course, I hope I'm wrong, as I'd hate you to have to use MS products.
