I agree. Better to go to a university that gives you a good solid foundation in computer science and then to specialize later on.
If you want to learn about *nix programming, why not pick a university whose courses show loyalty towards working on *nix platforms? At my alma mater (the University of Michigan), they started us off from the first year programming on Solaris and every Intel machine in the labs dual-booted with Linux.
