I have an Averatic 3120V. They don't make this model any more, but just as a data point, I can boot it using a Knoppix CD and it works perfectly, which indicates Linux support for all the hardware. Perhaps a cheaper alternative if you can't afford a ThinkPad (which I also have used and like). (Why Knoppix? Because I don't want to install Debian permanently on it: it's my official Windows box that I keep around for the occasional times I need one.) With Knoppix, you have to disable checking for a SCSI bus to boot successfully. As someone posted here in another thread, you might try taking a Knoppix or other liveCD with you to a computer shop and booting your desired laptop, to see whether it can autodetect all the major hardware. -- Carl Fink [EMAIL PROTECTED] Manager, Dueling Modems Computer Forum <http://dm.net> -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
