Mostly the same you have to do to play CDs from the command line:
load the driver for your sound card
add yourself to the audio group
make sure you have permission to access the cdrom device (be in group
cdrom, and, if you don't use ide-scsi emulation or scsi cd drives,
change ownership for the cdrom from root.disk to root.cdrom)
If you use KDE with the KDE soundserver arts running, and if your card
cannot mix sounds itself, make sure the application that plays the CD
has an output plugin for arts.
