I have just been playing with installing debian on an imac computer i just got hold of.
The standard installation went fine. All boots and kde works
I decided to compile a 2.6.6 kernel to see how it would go
I copied the old 2.4 config to the source of the 2.6.6 and did make oldconfig
answered all the new questions
After a few goes the kernel compiled and installed ok
updated yaboot
and rebooted on the 2.6.6 kernel i get the following message
VFS: cannot open root device "hda3" or unknown-block(0,0) Kernel panic: VFS: Unable ot mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)
I have check all the block settings in the 2.6.6 config
I have googled away found similar errors but couldnt see a solutions
if I boot from linux.old (original) it works
has anyone seen this or can give me some pointers of where I should be looking
