Since no one else has answered, I will say that I had something similar a month or two following an upgrade and got the same messages as you. It turned out that I was using an old version of /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/hyphen/grhyph.tex. I suspect that you have a similar problem. Maybe have a look at ithyph.tex, since I presume you are using Italian?
