Not sure what you mean by this. Are you using tasksel, dselect or aptitude to install packages? Or maybe you are just doing apt-get install package? I would suggest you use aptitude. If it's not installed do apt-get install aptitude Then run aptitude (check out the help available and man aptitude) > Failed to install it manually, since when I go to # /etc/apt/sources.list then > found a message bash: /etc/apt/sources.list : Permission denied This is a configuration file and won't run as a program. If you wan't to change your sources list to upgrade to sarge or sid for example then you would edit it with a text editor such as vim, pico or nano (depending on what you have installed). Anyway it sounds as though you need to become more familiar with Debian before attempting an upgrade. However, some of the packages in woody are quite old (a new release is on its way) but you can download KDE 3. by using backports. I would suggest that you do some research on the debian user list archives on "backports" http://lists.debian.org/search.html Regards Clive > My kernel version is 2.4.18-bf2.4 > Any advice would be appreciated > > Just Newbie > Endianto > > -- http://www.clivemenzies.co.uk strategies for business -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
