Excuse me. Since he's obviously running one of the default kernels not his 
own compiled kernel, wouldn't it be wise to instruct him to install the 
kernel-headers package that corresponds with the default kernel he's 
running, rather than getting him to install the complex and (in this case) 
unneccesary make-kpkg? He doesn't want to recompile the kernel, just the 
nvidia drivers.

As my friend is apt to say "right tool for the right job."
