Isaac, I had this issue a week ago and a friend on irc kindly told me about xwd. The easiest way of doing it is to run the command:
xwd > /path/filename.xwd Then go and open that .xwd file with the gimp: gimp /path/filename.xwd & Edit as appropriate (canvas size etc) then select file > save as and save it as a .jpeg (works best for me) If a .jpeg file image is what I want all is fine. If not i'll use a program called xnview (freely available from www.xnview.com) to convert the image. It was a nice way to keep track of changes to some graphics software I was working on. I wonder if there's a way to do something like this in X...
