The fine people at LinuxPrinting.org claim that "gimp-print" works best to their liking: <http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=317801> I have an epson inkjet printer that I have not used in eight or nine months, but I used ghostscript to convert the documents to an epson-compatible format and then used 'lp' to send them to the printer.
