I run xmms under Woody. Under Options -> Preferences look at the
"Audio I/O Plugins" tab. There is an Output Plugin selector. Choose
"eSound Output Plugin 1.2.7".

No, xmms is not a GNOME application, so it can't figure this out for
itself in general ;-)
