Hello, I installed lpr-ppd, printfilters-ppd and printtool through dselect. I used printtool to set up our printer and have the problem that I can't print to it now. When (as a user) I do 'lpr -Plj8150 maccoss_2002.pdf && lpq' I get: no entries. 'ps aux | grep lpd' gives me: root 23485 0.0 0.0 2048 732 ? S 09:33 0:00 /usr/sbin/lpd - so that seems to be running. I have attached /etc/printcap, lpc 'status' and ls -l /var/spool/lpd output.
Please give me a hint. What am I doing wrong? Joh # /etc/printcap: printer capability database. See printcap(5). # You can use the filter entries df, tf, cf, gf etc. for # your own filters. See /etc/filter.ps, /etc/filter.pcl and # the printcap(5) manual page for further details. lp|Generic dot-matrix printer entry:\ :lp=/dev/lp0:\ :sd=/var/spool/lpd/lp:\ :af=/var/log/lp-acct:\ :lf=/var/log/lp-errs:\ :pl#66:\ :pw#80:\ :pc#150:\ :mx#0:\ :sh: # rlp|Remote printer entry:\ # :lp=:\ # :rm=remotehost:\ # :rp=remoteprinter:\ # :sd=/var/spool/lpd/remote:\ # :mx#0:\ # :sh: ##PRINTTOOL3## REMOTE POSTSCRIPT 1200x1200 letter {} HPLaserJet8150_PS Default {} lj8150:\ :sd=/var/spool/lpd/lj8150:\ :mx#0:\ :sh:\ :rm=printer.institution.edu:\ :rp= :\ :lpd_bounce=true:\ :if=/usr/lib/printfilters/master-filter:\ :ppdfile=/usr/share/postscript/ppd/HP_LaserJet_8150_Series.ppd:\ :PAPERSIZE=letter:\ :DESIRED_TO=ps:\ :PRINTER_TYPE=REMOTE:\ :ASCII_TO_PS=YES:\ :GSDEVICE=POSTSCRIPT:\ :RESOLUTION=1200x1200:\ :PS_SEND_EOF=YES:\ :NUP=1:\ :RTLFTMAR=18:\ :TOPBOTMAR=18:\ :TEXT_SEND_EOF=NO: root's lpc sais upon 'status': lp: queuing is enabled printing is enabled no entries no daemon present lj8150: queuing is enabled printing is enabled no entries no daemon present and 'ls -l /var/spool/lpd' results in drwxrwxr-x 2 root lp 1024 Sep 24 09:45 lj8150 drwxr-sr-x 2 root lp 1024 Sep 24 09:44 lp -rw-r--r-- 1 root lp 6 Sep 24 09:33 lpd.lock _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
