Hi

It cannot be installed on the same partition as WIndows98.
You need to free up some disk space (3 or 4 GB would be fine initially if you
just want to play with Debian). You can use programs like Partition Magic to
shrink your Windows98 partition if you currently have only a single partition
using your whole hard drive. Once you have done this you can creat the two
partitions needed for Debian (it uses a swap partition instead of a swap file
like Windows) and the install Debian. The installation program will detect
your current Windows Installation and Lilo the boot manager will creat a menu
that lets you choose which O/S to boot into.

NB backup all your data before using a utility like Partition Magic or
installing Debian as messing arround with your partitions can destroy all
your data if something goes wrong !!! (Its rare though but better to be safe
than sorry).
