You have not installed the nvidia-glx stuff properly then.

You will need to at least built the kernel-module (you would have to at 
least have kernel-source to do this i think).  Go into /usr/src and look 
at the nvidia stuff it put there, then read the docs in 
/usr/share/nvidia-* to learn what you must do (installing the packages 
is not enough).
