This is what i did that works: 1. download source from mirror and extract it in /usr/src/kernel-source-2.4.18 2. copy the config-2.4.18-686 from boot and give it name .config so that i only use the new options in new kernel. #/usr/src/kernel-source-2.4.18 make menuconfig I didn't do this-> 3. edit source according to reference from binutils 4. #/usr/src/kernel-source-2.4.18 make-kpkg clean 5. #/usr/src/kernel-source-2.4.18 make-kpkg --initrd --revision=custom.1 kernel_image 6. #/usr/src/kernel-source-2.4.18 dpkg -i ..\kernel_image-2.4.18-custom.1_i386.deb Reboot.
