Hej, I think I have an iBook like that. I am running Debian sarge (testing) on it with xserver-xfree86 4.3.0.dfsg. I have put my XF86Config-4 file on http://nain.oso.chalmers.se/. Please feel free to see if it works for you. I don't think you need to go to the unstable version.
