I did not want to destroy my already working version on (hd0). - trying to install lilo on /dev/floppy/0 gives an error message, but d-i is satisfied nevertheless, thus I could eventually choose "finish and reboot" - when displaying the "finish and reboot" dialog, <go back> does not work; you are forced to proceed - when booting the system the first time and executing base-config, no keymap was loaded (I chose "german", "de-latin-nokeadkeys" in d-i); this should be respected All in all, my general impression was that d-i feels more complicated than b-f. The modular system is a great architecture, but it should be hidden from end users. Please feel free to ask about particular details. BTW: many messages in d-i are not translated to de-de.
