Bug#219525: installation report: "configure the network" failed

After rebooting I examined the file /etc/network/interfaces, all it
contained were two comment lines.  I added the lines

   auto eth1
   iface eth1 inet dhcp

and ran 'ifup eth1', that brought up the interface, negotiated a DHCP
lease, etc.
