There is a nice package called pppoeconf that will setup a PPPoE connection. It took me 10 seconds to get my cable modem working with that tool. Although it should be possible to manually edit files and scripts, I can't give any hints on that front. It's too long ago and I am currently not using PPPoE. Bob
