so my typical workflow for such usecases git fetch origin git checkout debian # where packaging lives git merge origin/master dch_gitrev -i origin/master to get something like this in case of datalad: $> dch_gitrev -i origin/master new entry D: mbase is 'c1e438708ad29293eb2853f5e9cd0b7743d362f0' D: Got new_entry='1', upstream ver of last entry 0.9.1 and 624-gc1e43870.
