Thanks! That is a very interesting article and clears up some things.
One of the disadvantages of using something like rpm or apt-get all
the time is that you never really know what is happening "under the
covers".
But, I think there is probably some patches and such that I need
from debian.org to do this. What are they and how does one get
them? Anybody?

recompile. I haven't read it yet, but hope that it helps. You find it at
