Проще говоря, есть copyright holder и есть все остальные. Хороший (в кавычках)
и отрезвляющий пример здесь - это как создавался ReiserFS (читать вдумчиво
linux/fs/reiserfs/README). Гансу Райзеру не откажешь в предприимчивости.
Вот "забавный" текстик, который печатает (оригинальный) mkreiserfs перед

paid for much of the previous version 3 work. Reiserfs
integration in their distro is consistently solid.
MP3.com paid for initial journaling development.
