The errors you list there do seem familiar to me as typical 1.8-only stuff compiled on 1.9. Do note that we also have our transition status: http://pkg-ruby-extras.alioth.debian.org/wheezy with the accompanying details page sorted on popularity. It would be nice if it's somehow tied in with PET to list some as work-in-progress (yellow colored row) and pending/in-NEW (green colored row). As I have run into starting working on a transition that was already in progress a few times already.
