Luckily the gdal transition is already at 61% and progressing nicely, I'm almost done with the rdeps maintained by the Debian GIS team. After those, only a few gdal rdeps will remain in need of a binNMU. The entanglement with the notorious vtk* transitions is unfortunate, but a well known problem in the long history of the gdal transition.
