I just noticed that the maintainer of mupen64plus-video-z64 already committed a patch[1] on Debian git repository to fix this. It was back in May. I'm about filing a bug report anyway, so the maintainer has a good reason to upload a new revision. And thanks for your advice on how to solve this. Cheers.
