I don't know if Alex is still active, I'm cc-ing him in the hope of a response.

I would be happy to co-maintain or take over maintenance of wader as needed.
It is an alternate dependency of modem-manager-gui, which I maintain.

Regarding the patch, I have been in contact with upstream and he is
testing a different approach to fixing this problem.
Basically, ensuring network_id is always an integer rather than
changing network_id to text.

I'll attach a new debdiff to this bug soon.
