The only thing I can think of is sticking to versions of cdparanoia
supported by FreeBSD upstream
(http://www.freshports.org/audio/cdparanoia/).  However I can
understand this may be impractical.  Sorry that I can't suggest any
better solution.  The real fix is to persuade upstream of course...

I'd suggest to document this in the patch header (maybe this avoids
repeating this discussion FWIW).
