As added on #630268, evolution 3.0 works with libnotify 0.7 but it needs libgdata from experimental, not sure if it's supposed to happen soon (I didn't really touch 3.x branch at all). I can try to build evolution 2.32 against libnotify 0.7 (iirc there are a bunch of #ifdefs enabling it when built against GTK+ 3) but I can't promise anything.
