Thanks for bug report and for the patch to fix things. I've committed
it into the e2fsprogs source tree for updating.
I'm guessing this blows up the ability to make initrd's on x86_64
systems, so it would be worthwhile to apply for an freeze exception
for this package, yes?
(Actually, I have a set of relatively critical bug fixes that should
probably go into a Lenny upgrade, although I know this gets painful
since it impacts the d-i team as well.)
