Philipp, IMHO, SourceForge has been quite stable. That is, in the last 3-4 years, they have made incompatible updates to their site only once or twice. The same could happen with an API. I cannot speak to the stability of del.icio.us, however, so I agree that having a uniform policy toward these sorts of packages benefits the end users.
