Dear Release team, we, the Qt/KDE team, have been preparing Plasma 6 incl. dependencies for a few months now in experimental. It is our goal to ship trixie with Plasma 6 instead of the EOL Plasma 5. We consider Plasma 6 to be stable enough to ship in the next release. In order to give us some time to handle potential bugs and problems, we want to upload Plasma 6 to unstable as soon as possible. As some parts of Plasma 6 still use Qt 5, we want to wait until the ongoing Qt 5.15.15 transition is complete before we do the upload.
Now, uploading Plasma 6 to unstable will not be completely painless as a number of dependencies and reverse dependencies need to be taken care of as well. Uploading Plasma 6 incl. its needed dependencies will cause breakage in unstable for some packages. We have filed many bugs against reverse dependencies informing them of the upcoming changes and we think we have given those packages enough time to prepare for the change in one way or another. It is possible that we have missed some packages, but this whole transition several hundred packages some of which are outside of this team's scope. Technically, the Plasma 6 upload incorporates 10 transitions (https:// release.debian.org/transitions/index.html). However, a number of the transitions involving Plasma 6 only involve KDE package (we will take care of those anyway) and virtually all binNMUs would fail as packages need to be actively ported from Plasma 5 to 6 or from Qt 5 to Qt 6. We want to inform you about this upcoming upload and ask if you have any objections. Thank you. For the Qt/KDE team, Patrick Franz & Aurélien COUDERC
