As far as I understand this approach will break any consumer on a library whose ABI changes to to the ABI changes introduced here unless the consumer is built with the flags from `dpkg-buildflags` (which would now define the ABI). In particular users could no longer just invoke `gcc` alone, but would have to also rely on `dpkg-buildflags` for any software they built on their own using runtime libraries shipped by Debian. It would work in some cases (multi-ABI libraries like libc6 or libraries not affected by the ABI change), but it is not reliable. Do we want this? It must at least be documented, probably in Debian Policy and GCC. This was asked on debian-devel@ multiple times, but there was no answer so far. Ansgar
