Exactly. As long as I didn't need such fresh features like vserver 2.0 or the latest v4l snapshot for 2.6.12.4, I was very happy with stock Debian 2.6.8 binary (and some modules compiled against the headers).
And such people compiling kernels for playing around, testing, downsizing, the 'newest from kernel.org' etc. are not the 80% unskilled mainstream users.
