Package: php4 Testing: 4:4.1.2-6 Unstable: 4:4.3.2+rc3-3 Bugs: 196281 Suggestion: remove-from-testing Analysis: Bug has been open for 75 days, since the package was broken by manual testing overrides to get a number of libraries into testing. The package is actively maintained (at present), but is now held up in unstable by glibc. Better to remove it from testing until the glibc block is resolved. Package: animals Testing: 19991226-4.2 Unstable: 19991226-4.2 Bugs: 195404 Suggestion: remove-from-testing Analysis: From the bug report: "Bizarrely, 'animals' appears to be the *last* package in Debian to use libdb2++ (the C++ interface to libdb2). So if you can migrate it to db3 or db4 or gdbm it would probably allow the db2 maintainer to just drop db2++ support rather than fixing it. ;-)" FTBFS bug is open for 3 months; package has been forcibly orphaned by QA team due to lack of real activity from the maintainer. Package: cgp Testing: none Unstable: 0.4-1 Bugs: 178415 Suggestion: remove-from-unstable Analysis: Although the maintainer showed interest in this RC bug shortly after it was filed, no action has been taken. A patch was recently provided on the bug; however, I've looked at the source of this package, and I believe it's architecturally unsound and likely hides many other bugs due to the gross absence of error checking. Though it has a pleasant interface, I don't believe this software is viable in its current state. Package: bnc Testing: 2.6.4-4 Unstable: 2.6.4-4 Bugs: 148645 Suggestion: remove-from-testing Analysis: FTBFS since April, due to trivial, one-year-old packaging bug. Current maintainer now uses dircproxy instead, which seems to be a suitable replacement. The only sign of interest was from a non-DD, who writes: "[T]he question of my real interest in the package came, and in fact I don't use it. I don't need an irc proxy, and even if I like to play with irc stuff the authentification via plain text password really annoys me. I'll send an email to Brian to tell him he can orphan the package (and clarify the situation in #148645)." . I have orphaned the package, since Brian doesn't seem to actually care enough to RFA it. I consider this a candidate for removal from the archive, but figure we might as well give it a month on the orphan circuit first in case there are any takers. Package: chicken Testing: 0.1072-2 Unstable: 1.10-2 Bugs: 189296 Suggestion: remove-outdated-binaries, remove-from-testing Analysis: Previous versions of this package built on sparc, and binaries are present in testing and unstable. The package fails to build because the generated tool (a compiler) is run during the build process, and segfaults on many architectures. There are non-trivial porting issues with compilers in general, and since this is a scheme compiler, it requires additional expertise to get it running again. All things considered, 7 out of 11 architectures isn't bad for something like this, so I don't see any reason not to fix things up so the most recent packages proceed into testing. Package: cl-uncommonsql Testing: 1.1.8.5-1 Unstable: 1.2.0-1 Bugs: 186521 Suggestion: remove-from-testing Analysis: By all rights, libpq3 should not have been allowed into testing while this package was still there. However, since cl-uncommon-postgresql does not actually *declare* its dependency on the library, it slipped through the cracks. The best course of action now is to remove the broken package from testing until it can be fixed in unstable. Package: cvsup Testing: 16.1f-1 Unstable: 16.1f-1 Bugs: 182732 Suggestion: remove-from-testing Analysis: The library this package depends on, libpm3, has been removed from unstable, and appears to only still be in testing because of cvsup itself. Since no one has stepped forward to maintain libpm3 even in light of this, I think it would be imprudent to release with this pair of packages in their current state. The bug, in any case, has been tagged sid, since the dependencies are currently satisfied everywhere else. Package: cwcdr Testing: 1.0.0-1 Unstable: 1.0.0-1 Bugs: 179705 Suggestion: remove-from-testing Analysis: Depends on libfreedb-perl, which is absent from both testing and unstable. Package is not releasable in its present state. Package: dancer-ircd Testing: 1.0.31+maint8-4 Unstable: 1.0.31+maint8-4 Bugs: 194891 Suggestion: remove-from-testing Analysis: FTBFS. Apparently will be fixed in the next upstream release, which hasn't happened yet. Package: dockbook-jrefentry Testing: 1.1-2 Unstable: 1.1-2 Bugs: 194522 Suggestion: remove-from-testing Analysis: Longstanding RC bug with an apparently trivial fix -- no response from maintainer. Will recommend removal from unstable as well if there is no response to pings. Package: ecartis Testing: 0.129a+1.0.0-snap20020514-1 Unstable: 1.0.0+cvs.20030321-1 Bugs: 178342 Suggestion: remove-from-testing Analysis: Contains a segfault bug when parsing untrusted input; possibly exploitable. Version currently in testing also suffers from a previous vulnerability for which a DSA was issued. Package eglade Testing: 0.3.7-1 Unstable: 0.3.7-1 Bugs: 189628 Suggestion: remove-from-testing Analysis: 4-month-old FTBFS, no response from maintainer. Bug doesn't seem unfixable, and alternative packages are unlikely to exist, so not requesting removal from unstable at this time. Package: elvis Testing: 2.1.4-4.2 Unstable: 2.1.4-4.2 Bugs: 189630 Suggestion: remove-from-testing Analysis: FTBFS for 4 months. Package is orphaned; bug changed to 'ITA' ~2 months ago, no upload activity seen. Plenty of other vi's to go around. (The bug has been claimed for the BSP, but there has been no upload.) Package: fenris Testing: 1:0.07build3244-2 Unstable: 1:0.07build3244-2 Bugs: 189698 Suggestion: remove-from-testing Analysis: Four-month-old FTBFS; last maintainer response was two months ago. Package: ferret Testing: 2.4-2 Unstable: 2.5-1 Bugs: 170488 193051 Suggestion: remove-from-testing Analysis: Two distinct FTBFS bugs; maintainer is unwilling or unable to test packages on unstable before uploading. Package: gamix Testing: 1.99.p11-0.1 Unstable: 1.99.p11-0.1 Bugs: 187844 Suggestion: remove-from-testing Analysis: Unusual locale-related segfault, appears to be non-trivial to fix (and suggestive of overall poor code quality). Tagged help, but none offered. We can probably do with one less sound mixer app. Package: gdis Testing: 0.77.3-1 Unstable: 0.77.3-1 Bugs: 188427 196527 Suggestion: remove-from-testing Analysis: Longstanding unresolved license issue. Non-free code in a GPL work, so this program is non-distributable unless the problem is resolved. Pinged the maintainer to check for progress. Package: haddock Testing: 0.3-1 Unstable: 0.4.0-1 Bugs: 173762 Suggestion: remove-from-testing Analysis: FTBFS bug, requires old autoconf and flex to build. No response from maintainer after 8 months. A second build-dep bug has been tagged pending since March, with no upload. Likely candidate for orphaning. Package: j-cvsbook Testing: 1.12-3 Unstable: 1.12-3 Bugs: 189912 Suggestion: remove-from-testing Analysis: FTBFS, no response from maintainer, not trivial enough to have gained a patch. Package: php-gtk Testing: 0.5.1-3 Unstable: 0.5.1-12 Bugs: 191386 Suggestion: remove-from-testing, remove-from-unstable Analysis: Orphaned package of questionable merit. Uninstallable in testing. Packaging is in bad shape, and I have negative motivation to work on fixing it. No one will miss this package, and if they do, I'll tie them to a tree until after the release so they can't object. -- Steve Langasek postmodern programmer
