I don't really think that enabling or disabling atime makes a big difference with respect to media wear when sync is turned off. For the common case, vfat filesystem on flash disks, there is only diratime. And nodiratime is default for vfat (thanks to Martin for testing) anyway. I can upload a new version, with atime enabled again (It's only a little change). But as said, i don't think it matters a lot.
