Ok, thanks. Please note that this now blocks the fix for 308762 from reaching sarge, since 4.0.24-9 was uploaded before 4.0.24-8 reached testing. FWIW, one thought I had was that you could check for a symlink in a preinst, save the information about the link target somewhere under /var/lib/, and recreate it in the postinst if it gets lost due to upgrade issues.
