No, it is not to aggressive. I appologize for the inconvenience since I - being the gdal maintainer - am responsible for the delay. A new gdal package, depending on xerces26 has been uploaded yesterday by my sponsor so that qgis can no be rebuild as well before xerces21 is removed.
