That's interesting. OK, so let's try to rule out if it's really a Qt5 problem or not. Michael: is there any chance for you to install transmission-qt? I f you can please open it and then go to Edit → Preferences, Desktop tab. Once in there mark "Show transmission icon in the notification area". The icon should appear right away. If you can reproduce the behavior there I'll do a simple test app to reproduce the problem and file a bug upstream.
