Apparently, this bug has been marked as duplicate of bug #186198 https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=186198
I feel this is incorrect, as bug 186198 is a bug against gdm2, and this bug (581841) is against gdm3. gdm2 is functioning correctly with KDE 4, at least on my install (Squeeze/Sid). dgm3 is *not* function correctly with KDE 4.
