In KDE4, if I configure more then four workspaces, the Ctrl-Fx short cut keys for workspace selection only work for the first four workspaces, ie. Ctrl-F1, Ctrl-F2, Ctrl-F3, and Ctrl-F4. Mouse action is required to get to Workspace 5 and above.
