Dear Maintainer, if kde-plasma-desktop is installed after package xrdp on a basic system which does not have a display manager before, the upcoming X11 login screen does not have a working keyboard or mouse. The user feels stuck with no apparent solution. This happened on a virtualbox image of Debian Trixie. Expectation would have been that either a) the display-manager.server does not come up or b) input from mouse and keyboard works, if the sddms login screen is shown >From my initial analysis this looks like a packaging issue with dependencies. apt-get install xrdb apt-get install kde-plasma-desktop will lead to sddm starting with X11 (on Bookworm and Trixie), but xserver-xorg-input-all missing. Xorg.0.log then has lines likes [ 7.829] (II) config/udev: Adding input device VirtualBox mouse integration (/dev/input/event6) [ 7.829] (II) No input driver specified, ignoring this device. [ 7.829] (II) This device may have been added with another device file. A direct connection via RDP does work now (and has keyboard and mouse), but the main screen still show the sddm which does not seem to accept any input. However when using a different install order apt-get install kde-plasma-desktop apt-get install xrdb xserver-xorg-input-all is there and things are working as expected. My expectation is that the order of installation should not make a difference here. Especially as sddm is started as display-manager.server after reboot in both cases, it should also work. I have not done further analysis where the dependency issue should be healed, but I am reporting here, because this is where I'd search for the problem report first and kde-plasma-desktop draws in xserver-xorg.
