Is there some sort of effort underway to reduce the effort in manually replicating the KDE (or freedesktop) menu files to the Debian menu files format for each package? I guess that with some of the announced features for the latter (e.g., translations), this could become quite cumbersome.
I was hacking together a few scripts that could do this somewhat automatically, using a CDBS-type makefile. However, it seems that this should be addressed on a more fundamental level, somewhere in the menu system.
