I put the old configuration file back in, and kicker would not start, I
then looked at libiw28 and noticed I was running pre9 or more precisely
the file
26486 2005-09-07 21:17 libiw28_27+28pre9-1_i386.deb
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo dpkg --install ./libiw28_27+28pre8-1_i386.deb
dpkg - warning: downgrading libiw28 from 27+28pre9-1 to 27+28pre8-1.
(Reading database ... 215939 files and directories currently installed.)

./libiw28_27+28pre8-1_i386.deb) ...

So I downgraded to pre8 as suggested and kicker started and is running
like a happy little vegemite.

Kicker signal 11's on startup, I am running 3.4.2-2 on another system
without any problems. While kicker might appear to be just another kde
program it's failure greatly impacts the rest of kde, basically making it
unusable. I tried to do a backtrace but the program reported nothing
useful.
I logged in with another account on the same system that had never run kde
and it worked fine, the problem is with .kde/share/config/kickerrc I
renamed this file and all is working. The average user would not know how
to diagnose or even attempt to solve this problem.
I believe this is a duplicate of #327843. Can you try to install the
previous version of libiw28 [1] and check? Thanks.
