the faulty line is the NoDisplay=true. corresponding commit is here [1], commit log beeing : `` I didn't noticed that it was already part of the Display item. So we need a "NoDisplay=true" to hide it in kcm and kicker menu. '' (revision 349480) Though, in current KDE, if we remove the NoDisplay=true, even afeter kbuildsycoca, kicker/KDE Menu are kgamma-free, and kcmshell kgamma works as expected. I suggest we create a patch, and submit it to upstream.
