If you don't want gamin, don't install it. Install=20 libfam0 instead, but leave out the fam daemon (which is not in the libfam0= =20 package). Without gamin or the fam daemon, KDE will fall back on dnotify,=20 or polling if your kernel is ancient. Having said this, it is likely that KDE will be moving to gamin at some=20 undetermined point in the future, perhaps when gamin improves, perhaps in=20 conjunction with GNOME. At this point, KDE's built-in dnotify support would= =20 no longer be used. Instead, KDE would use inotify/dnotify/polling through=20 gamin, depending on the kernel. Despite gamin's current problems, it does=20 support inotify, which is The Future (tm). KDE does not have built-in=20 inotify support.
