These keys are ignored under kde, so I get ^e instead of =EA. I have searched hours long where it could come from, and I have found following clues: - When I launch konsole from another konsole, dead keys work in the new konsole but still not in other applications. - When I launch konsole/konqueror/... from kicker, root menu (right click on the wallpaper) dead keys won't work. - When I start xterm (from konsole or kicker), dead keys work in this xterm - When I launch kdeinit, dead keys work for this session in all new applications. Old applications (started before kdeinit) still don't have dead keys. kdeinit gives a lot of warnings because of undefined mimetypes but that's all : $ kdeinit kdeinit: Shutting down running client. --------------------------------- It looks like dcopserver is already running. If you are sure that it is not already running, remove /home/tibob/.DCOPserver_topaze__0 and start dcopserver again. --------------------------------- QPixmap: Cannot create a QPixmap when no GUI is being used QPixmap: Cannot create a QPixmap when no GUI is being used KDE Daemon (kded) already running. QPixmap: Cannot create a QPixmap when no GUI is being used QPixmap: Cannot create a QPixmap when no GUI is being used kbuildsycoca running... Reusing existing ksycoca kbuildsycoca: WARNING: 'OpenOffice.org1.1/math.desktop' specifies undefined mimetype/servicetype 'application/vnd.sun.xml.writer.math' ... kbuildsycoca: WARNING: 'OpenOffice.org1.1/writer.desktop' specifies undefined mimetype/servicetype 'application/x-doc' - When launching konsole from the text console (ctrl-alt-F1), dead keys won't work even if kdeinit has been started before. - Reinstalling kde after purging configuration files won't help - Dead keys work perfectly on my desktop computer, but I can't figure where the difference is. - This is not a user configuration problem as I tried if it would work with blank new users. It doesn't :-/ I'm unsure this is the right package to post this bug report. kicker was another candidate, but as the problem also exists with the root menu, I preferred reporting this in the packege kdeinit belongs to. I apologise if I am at the wrong place, please do not hesitate to redirect this report to the right place ! Thanks for your help !
