okay, weird but true: i installed kdelibs4 (from my built version dpkg-buildpackage on kdelibs) and ./configure was successful for kdebase. i do not understand why, when i had kdelibs4 and kdelibs4-dev installed from the debian archives, that building kdebase failed. l.
